Oneida Language & Culture

Shekóli! Hello!

The Oneida Language and Culture program is one of four language programs taught at ICS. Each family chooses the language they would like their child(ren) to learn, and lessons begin in K4 and continue through 8th grade. Our Oneida Language and Culture teachers are:

Lori Klein
Teacher

Sophia Danforth
Apprentice

In the Oneida Language and Culture classroom we work with latiksaɂshúha (the children) every day through song, pictures and hands-on activities to learn:

• Sound system, numbers, colors, animals, foods

• Clan systems, Ceremonies, Conversational skills

• Basic introductions, greetings, and Oneida history

• Grammar and sentence structures with vocabulary

We send Oneida language materials home so that students can work on building language skills together with family members and the wider community.
