Menominee Language & Culture

Pōsōh! Hellol!

The Menominee Language and Culture program is one of four language programs taught at ICS. Each family chooses the language they would like their child(ren) to learn, and lessons begin in K4 and continue through 8th grade. Our Menominee Language and Culture teachers are:

Rebecca Basina Harrison
Teacher

Shane Waubanascum
Apprentice

We value the importance of speaking and preserving the Menominee language inside and outside of the classroom. To do that, we use a variety of lesson plans to encourage language learning.

Younger students are introduced to the Menominee language through lessons and games. Students are engaged in learning through visuals and hearing the language spoken. Students are also strongly encouraged to use as much language as they can inside and outside the classroom.

Students learn a Menominee Prayer, calendar work, weather words, numbers, animals, everyday objects (animate and inanimate), basic commands, basic dialogue, third-person singular verbs, and plurals.
